About Me

Hey! I’m the creator of the mystery and romance series, VIOLET’S SHADOW: A MURDER MYSTERY and CONFESSIONS OF A NEW GRAD. My shows are dramatized audiobooks with cinematic music and sound design. You can stream them for free wherever you get your audiobooks, music, or podcasts (Audible, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, etc).

I’m currently deep in the edits and sound design for my two new immersive full-cast series:

1) The DeMondego Diamond: a new standalone (but connected) mystery for Season 2 of Violet’s Shadow

2) Elizabeth Herbsmith: a new romantic fantasy written and directed by my creative partner for the project, Dave Greggs.

Both shows are scheduled for release later this year (2026)!

Thanks for checking out my work. You can get in touch via my contact page or send me a message on Instagram.

A Little Behind the Scenes

I’ve been in love with stories (particularly audiobooks) since I was a child and always wanted to be a writer… But when I graduated I had absolutely NO idea how I was going to do that. I wrote a book and queried literary agents, but the few responses I got were rejections (which, honestly, fair enough because it wasn’t that good). During my ultra-long commute to a job I didn’t want, I listened to audiobooks. But I was broke and couldn’t afford to buy them that often, so a friend recommended the podcast Serial, and like many people, that was my way into the podcast medium.

While I enjoyed true crime, I was craving a story I could relate to, so I started writing my first show, Confessions of a New Grad.

I had no idea how to do what I was doing, but I knew what I wanted to create: a relatable, realistic story for new adults in the form of an audiobook with music - sort of like a hybrid between an audiobook and a TV show. So I bought as good of a mic as I could afford and recorded in my closet, editing on GarageBand. The music element at that time (2019) was tricky because while there were subscriptions for budget independent YouTubers/influencers, no one was really doing that for podcasts. Eventually, I found two great companies that cleared me to use their music for podcasts, which was such a win because -if you’ve listened to my shows you know- the music is essential.

My cold querying skills to literary agents paid off in an unexpected way when the show came out and I realized that Apple Podcasts accepted editorial pitches from random nobodies such as myself. The next thing I knew, Confessions of a New Grad was on the front page of Apple Podcasts Canada. It went on to reach #1 in Fiction in Canada and 18 other countries, and was nominated for the Canadian Podcast Awards in 2021 and 2022. The Canada Council for the Arts also awarded me two separate grants to make Seasons 3 and 4. I haven’t listened to Confessions of a New Grad since I was editing/publishing it and dropping in on an episode now feels like heading back to the stone age in terms of production quality and narration skills (my goodness…), but I’m so proud of what that show is and how I made it with no experience on an ultra-low budget.

Thanks to another grant from the Canada Council, I was able to complete another, much more ambitious production, Violet’s Shadow: A Murder Mystery (which is fully out now). For Violet’s Shadow, I stayed on as Brooklyn/the narrator, but also hired a full-cast of voice actors to bring the story to life with me in person at Blue Light Studio. Going from recording alone in my closet to holding casting calls and producing/directing (while also narrating) was overwhelming. I’m actually quite shy (hence why I enjoyed recording in my closet) and all of this took me SO FAR out of my comfort zone. Especially Brooklyn’s more romantic scenes… I felt like a fraud who didn’t know what I was doing and I was worried all the actors and engineers would see that. But the actual experience was one of the best of my life. Yes, I was stressed, but I hid that as well as I could and the wonderful cast and engineers at Blue Light Studio made the experience so much fun.

Once everything was recorded, I finally graduated out of Garageband and learned how to edit multi-cast scenes on Pro Tools (thanks Pherbie and Kaj at Blue Light Studio for your impromptu crash courses), as well as incorporate a newer, more cinematic level of sound design and music. Violet’s Shadow was nominated for BEST SCRIPTED PODCAST at the 2025 Astra Podcast Awards (Hollywood Creative Alliance), was a SPOTIFY 2025 “Most Shared Show”, “Instant Hit Show”, and “Marathon Show,” has been featured by APPLE PODCASTS, AMAZON MUSIC, and POCKETCASTS and was an Official Selection of AESTHETICA FILM FESTIVAL 2025.

Since then, I’ve been working on Season 2 of Violet’s Shadow, The DeMondego Diamond, as well as Elizabeth Herbsmith, a brand new romantic fantasy series. Both shows have full-casts, were recorded live in studio, and involve immersive cinematic sound design and music. I feel like I’ve fine-tuned my production style with these series and can’t wait for you to hear them when they come out later this year.

If you’d like to support my work, I’d really appreciate it if you could spread the word by sharing my shows on social media or rating/reviewing them on podcast apps. I also offer premium subscriptions on Apple Podcasts and Patreon where you can binge seasons early, listen ad-free, and hear bonus behind-the-scenes content.
